Mary Palmer Dargan, the author of “Lifelong Landscape Design”, “Timeless Landscape Design” and “The Early English KitchenGarden”, will be available for book signings at the event.
For over 20 years, she has specialized in mountain landscape design and has award winning projects at Blackberry Farm, The Chattooga Club, Cullasaja, Biltmore Forest, Wade Hampton, Highlands Country Club, Balsam Mountain Preserve and many private estates and homes in the area. The event is to kick off a series of talks entitled Thursdays at 10 In Dovecote’s Garden that Mary Palmer Dargan and guest speakers will give this summer to celebrate mountain landscape design, sculpture and art in the garden, home gardening and popular garden culture.

Unique in the Cashiers Highlands Plateau, this summer a series of informal garden talk salons are being held regularly on Thursdays at 10 In Dovecote’s Garden. This historic farmhouse, once nestled in the cornfields of Cashiers, is now ground zero for horticultural cognoscenti. The garden offices of landscape architects, Hugh and Mary Palmer Dargan, are located on McKinney Way (aka 35 Flash Point Lane) off Cashiers School Lane, 1 mile south of Crossroads on 107.

Here are the upcoming events where Mary Palmer and Hugh will be sharing valuable gardening and landscape design tips, tricks and techniques.
The Garden Show in Buckhead: This weekend, April 25-27, the historical Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta will be blooming with renowned horticulture speakers, accomplished chefs, floral designers and a colorful marketplace among other fantastic speakers and exhibits. “Showing & Growing” is this year’s theme for the event presented by the Southeastern Horticulture Society. Mary Palmer and Hugh will debut their miniature gardens at the event, as well as celebrating Mary Palmer’s birthday from 4-5 pm on the 26th. Mary Palmer will be giving a lecture, after which she’ll be available for book signings.
Dovecote Grand Opening: Located in Cashiers, NC, this venue was carefully designed to become a source of inspiration and hands-on learning for gardeners of all levels through lectures and workshops. June 27-28 will be the grand opening event to launch the space into its first summer. Don’t miss Mary Palmer’s talk about how to make your own Bitters, as well as the spectacular rock pieces by sculptor Carl Peverall. Jeff Zahner of Chattooga Gardners and John Warren of Natural Landscapes will also be presenting fascinating talks on gardening and landscaping.

Memphis to Milano Flower Show, Memphis, Tenn., April 5-6
Mary Palmer will be judging the horticulture and conservation exhibitions at this free and open to the public garden event to be held at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis. The show’s purpose is to exhibit outstanding horticulture, conservation, floral interpretations of fine art and photography, as well as to allow youth to participate in an educational exhibit. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 6. For more information, check out the event booklet.
Little Garden Club of Birmingham’s Ribbons of Green event, Birmingham, Ala., April 7-9
Delegates from Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama will convene for a general business meeting of the Garden Club of America, where Mary Palmer will be judging horticulture and conservation exhibits.
The Garden Club of Charleston’s 79th Annual Walking Tour of Private Houses & Gardens, Charleston, S.C., April 11-12
Mary Palmer and Hugh Dargan will be signing their books at 11:30 a.m. on April 11. Come have your copy signed and then enjoy the tour where you can see several of the historic Charleston gardens they’ve designed. The tour features some of the finest houses and gardens in Charleston’s historic district, as well as flower arrangements by club members.
The cost is $45, and hours are 2 to 5 p.m. on both Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12. Proceeds benefit the garden club’s ongoing projects, including maintaining the gardens at the Manigault House, the Heyward-Washington House, the Gateway Walk, the Healing Garden at MUSC, the Museum Courtyard Garden and the garden at the Historic Confederate Home.
