Its hard to believe that 8 months I’ve been working on my PLACE system and now it is ready to share. So , first a webinar training 5 part series on P.L.A.C.E  which finished yesteday after 9 weeks. Then the beta event in Cashiers, in late August, which tested the material in front of an audience. Now we are launching the Create your Oasis : Landscape Design for Today’s Lifestyle. Landscape Your Life (LYL) beta event a great success!

Late August in western NC is a great place to study garden design surrounded by dahlias, late summer wildflowers and knowledgeable experts! Mary Palmer Dargan, asla instructed the beta event goers with her version of the perfect landscape design learning weekend. 2 full days of lectures, both of which had 4 hours of field study to beautiful, mature mountain gardens and receptions at Chattooga Gardens and the Dixons completed the event. Day 3 was an optional design studio where students brought their projects and received first hand instruction.

Hydrangea…heaven???

 At our friends, Ruthie and Berryman Edward’s garden walk Annabelle’s steal the show. We designed it two years ago and are delighted with the beautiful hydrangea and hosta display very early this summer….3 weeks early. Annabelle, Bella Anna, Tardiva ( just starting) and Endless summer are all in a cacophony of WHITE and blue. The weird thing is that the internodal stretch on the tardivas has created very elongated  nodes, some 6″ apart..not at all normal. This means the limbs will fall out from the weight of the flower heads. It will be 90 here on Saturday. We’ve had heat early, lots of rain and voila! Corset anyone??

Croquet anyone? Highlands Country Club has the formula!

Highlands Country Club in Highlands NC hosts a number of croquet tournaments in the summer..in fact, it is a spectacular success! We designed the new practice court to the right and sited the pavilion. This winter stone walls were added to provide places to perch…over 225 people might show up for a match and there is limited space!
